One of the many ways in which Pembroke is truly independent is our unique approach to the collective spirituality of our diverse community.

As a non-denominational school, we have been and will continue to be a school that serves the spiritual needs of those of all faith traditions as well as those of none.

To that end, we have developed a Chapel Program of spiritual and ethical development which we hope will be a model of diversity, equity and inclusion for independent schools.

Under the direction and supervision of our Chaplain Reverend Rob MacPherson, we have engaged strategic partnerships with the Abraham Institute and The Ethics Centre. The Abraham Institute is a consortium of experienced interfaith educators representing all major faith traditions whose representatives are providing regular, engaging Chapel Services. In our Middle School, we offer a four-year cycle of services on key spiritual themes: Building Compassion, Finding Faith, Making Commitments and Developing the Spirit.

In the Senior School, we offer a two-year cycle of services on key spiritual principles: The Inherent Worth and Dignity of Every Person and The Interdependent Web of Being of Which We Are a Part.

The Ethics Centre (formerly The St. James Ethics Centre) will provide a comprehensive and systematic curriculum to nurture inquiry-based ethical thinking across our Junior School, beginning in 2025.

Despite our non-denominational ethos, we embrace spiritual and ethical development in a manner where conventional differences of belief or doctrine do not divide us from each other. While the widest range of voices are lifted, heard and respected, no one faith tradition or ethical system is privileged over another.

This approach to the spiritual and ethical development of our students reflects a deep faith in our School Motto: Ex Unitate Vires – Out of Unity, Strength
