Connecting with communities locally, nationally and internationally is a core part of the Pembroke experience.

In addition to our exceptional Outdoor Education Program, Pembroke features a signature suite of trips and exchanges, empowering our students to broaden their horizons.

Indigenous Exchange

One of the most significant adventures on Pembroke’s camping calendar is our unique exchange with Marree Aboriginal School in outback South Australia. Students visit each other’s schools and stay in the community through this treasured partnership which began with a Geography excursion to Marree three decades ago. Each year, approximately 20 Pembroke Middle School students embark on a transformational five-day journey, sleeping in swags, exploring the Australian outback and learning about Aboriginal culture. The deep connections they form with the local school children are what make this trip truly special, with many participants describing it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Beyond the Horizon

A new addition to our suite of travel is the incredible Beyond the Horizon program where our Year 9 students can opt to visit and connect with remote communities through meaningful service opportunities and cultural immersion while undertaking an intrepid adventure. Scores of students set off in the October school holiday period on one of the trips being offered, with destinations featuring the Pilbara, East Kimberley region, New South Wales South Coast, Southeast Queensland and Far North Queensland. Service activities are many and varied such as delivering meals to people experiencing homelessness, supporting Indigenous students in schools and youth hubs and contributing to wildlife rehabilitation and conservation projects.
